The center element of my kiln sags from end to end about 1 1/2 inches out of the lid groove. I read that Pyrolite can fix this. Do I need to heat the element first?

Pyrolite adhesive can seat the element in the lid groove. You should heat the element before pressing it into the groove, because elements become brittle as they age.

Position the element right over the groove. Allow it to cool a little. Add one or two dabs of Pyrolite to the groove. Then press the element into the Pyrolite. The element should not be covered with Pyrolite. Otherwise it could overheat and burn out. The element should be pressed into a bed of Pyrolite but still remain visible so that the element can release its heat.
