How do you dry out a kiln that has become wet?

Unplug the kiln, open the lid, and let the kiln dry for a few days. While it is drying, remove the switch box and clean the wires, connections, and all the electrical components. Do not fire the kiln until the switch box is completely dry. As you reinstall the switch box, arrange the wires so that they will not touch the kiln case or element connectors.

When the firing chamber appears to be dry, fire the kiln on low heat with the lid or door open. If you have a digital controller, hold the temperature at 200 degrees F. Use the Cone-Fire Pre-Heat if your controller includes that option. Fire the kiln in an area that has good ventilation, because steam may rise from the firebricks.
