Paragon Introduces Ceramic Fiber Lids / Tops For Glass Kilns

The optional ceramic fiber lid is available on most Paragon glass kilns.

06/16/2008

Paragon Industries has released a ceramic fiber lid / top that is optional on most Paragon firebrick glass kilns.

The ceramic fiber lid on top-loading kilns includes a stainless steel cover to protect the lid. The heating elements are threaded through a pinless element groove in the ceramic fiber.

Marc Hines, a glass artist in Tigard, Oregon, USA received the first lid prototype. He said, “I love the lid. Please advertise it. I think it's a real winner.

“As the first tester of the ceramic fiber lid for the Fusion-10, I have been using it with excellent results for many months. The ceramic fiber lid has so many advantages over the original brick lid that I will always use fiber lids in the future. Let me list a few advantages:

“After installing the lid and using my shop vacuum on the grooves, I have not had any contamination fall into my work. I fuse large round pieces that fill the shelf, so this feature alone was worth the upgrade.

“The fiber lid radiates less heat then the old brick unit, keeping my studio cooler.

“The fiber lid is lighter and easier to lift than the old brick lid.

“On the aesthetic side, the ceramic fiber lid has a metal top that complements the body of the kiln.

“If you are buying a new Fusion 10, I would strongly encourage you to order it with the ceramic fiber lid option. The benefits are well worth the extra cost.”

To find out if a ceramic fiber lid or top is available for a particular glass kiln, go to the kiln page. Then scroll down to the options section.
