New Paragon "Home Artist" Kiln
NEW KILN FROM PARAGON
The new Home Artist kiln from Paragon Industries, Inc. is now in production. The concept for the kiln was developed with others in the industry with the intent of putting the fired arts back in the home.
“We were at a trade show a year ago and discussed the idea of a low cost, efficient, digital kiln for the beginner,” said John S. Hohenshelt, President of Paragon. “It took months of design work to satisfy those requirements.”
The Home Artist kiln features a cylindrical 12” deep x 12” wide interior. The firing chamber, including the top, bottom and walls, is made of ceramic fiber with an embedded heating element. “We chose ceramic fiber because it is light weight, fires rapidly, and is energy efficient,” explained Hohenshelt. “The kiln weighs only 38 pounds. It is similar, in some ways, to Duncan’s Crafter-Plus and Artist-Plus of the 70s.”
The kiln plugs into a common 120 volt outlet. A 3-key digital controller is standard. The kiln includes a luggage-type carrier with two wheels and a collapsible handle in the front. At a maximum temperature of 2000 degrees F., the kiln is designed for slip-cast ceramics, china painting, and glass fusing.
