What is the difference between the controllers on a ceramic kiln and a glass kiln?

The difference between controllers designed for ceramics and those designed for glass is that the ceramic version includes Cone-Fire mode. The glass version does not. The other mode, Ramp-Hold, is used on both types of controllers.

Also, more and more glass controllers are 3-key instead of 12-key. The 3-key controller is less expensive than the 12-key and contains fewer features. But they both have Ramp-Hold mode.

Some brands of glass controllers also contain programs specifically designed for fusing and slumping glass. These are simply Ramp-Hold profiles that you could also enter yourself into the controller. Some people prefer to enter their own glass firing profiles, because glass fusing and slumping temperatures vary from brand, color, and batch of glass.
